Postal Worker Crashes On Ortega Highway

The incident occurred Monday around 1:50 p.m. approximately .3 miles east of South Main Divide near Lake Elsinore.

A postal worker had a close call on the Ortega Highway Monday.

According to CHP Officer Rigo Garcia, the postal worker was headed east on SR-74 around 1:50 p.m. yesterday when the transmission in the 1988 GMC van he was driving suddenly popped into neutral.

The incident occurred about .3 miles east of South Main Divide near Lake Elsinore, Officer Garcia said.

The postal worker tried to shift back into drive, but the transmission was jammed. In the process, he lost control of the vehicle, careened over an embankment and rolled, Officer Garcia said.

Fortunately, the driver was able to crawl out of the wreckage and call 911. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

“He wasn’t injured because he was wearing a safety belt,” Officer Garcia said.

The van didn’t fare as well. According to Officer Garcia, the vehicle sustained major damage.

“I don’t know what happened to all the mail,” Officer Garcia said.
