UPDATE: Semi Jack-Knifes On 15 Freeway

The crash, reported at 7:49 a.m., was at the Winchester off-ramp.

UPDATE 12:46 p.m.: A jack-knifed semi on the southbound 15 Freeway in Temecula jammed traffic throughout Southwest Riverside County Wednesday.

The crash was reported at 7:49 a.m. at the Winchester off-ramp.

Traffic was backed up through Wildomar on the southbound 15 Freeway and several lanes were shut down at the crash scene. Traffic on the southbound 215 from Menifee to the split was also jammed.

All lanes on the 15 Freeway were finally reopened around 12:30 p.m.

At press time, a SigAlert remains in place until further notice for slowed traffic caused by the backup.

The California Highway Patrol has described injuries in the jack-knife incident as "minor."

Another jerk cuts off a truck instead of waiting their turn...

Just another vacant California driver... No respect for others around them!

Yes, you see that so many time there, people think there time is more important, just go up and get off at the next exit and back track. Why is that so hard...

So at least 1 accident a week at Winchester. Hmmm, does a family member from someone up High have to get hurt before anything will get done?

Hi Colleen. The off-ramp is under construction, so I think someone finally got the message (and the funds). They're building a new overpass just north of Winchester to alleviate the traffic. As I understand, it's a two-phase project and Phase 1 is supposed to take about 1 1/2 years to complete. The project is called the French Valley Interchange: http://www.myvalleynews.com/story/62657/

The exit is only one problem. The main problem is impatient drivers cutting people off trying to get to the front of the line! I see it happen ALL the time. This exit is particularly dangerous now that they have left no shoulder for people to move in should someone slam on their brakes.

Please do not use the "R" word.
Jon Sims September 12, 2012 at 06:28 PM
@Colleen, maybe you missed the construction but they are already working on fixing the problem

So Anita, what do you call Sarah Palin's son, a retard??

I look forward to the road improvements at Winchester and realize it's going to cause inconveniences and tragically accidents also. Extra caution is going to be necessary. When I approach the Winchester offramp I expect delays. My frustration comes while waiting in line and cars speed by, then cut in at the front of the line. Not only is it dangerous but rude also. I do often avoid this offramp and will even more so during the much needed construction. Mirna, I absolutely agree regarding the "R" word. It's very hurtful and offensive to so many.

Everyone knows there is construction on the 15 right now, the problem is that people in California have no common courtesy for anyone else. Their time is so much more important than every other persons life. What's funny is when you see a person driving erratically and cutting people off, and then when you get to your off ramp, they are one car in front of you....yeah you just created traffic all behind you driving like a moron and you ended up getting of the freeway at the same time as me....i see it almost every day on the way to and from Temecula for work.

Annaka05 - I couldn't have said it any better!
liss September 12, 2012 at 07:20 PM
I have always felt that big trucks should stay off the freeway from 7am-9am to let those get to work ...Just my thought
Dourk September 12, 2012 at 07:24 PM
No, that's what we call Sarah herself.

The shoulder provided motorists with an escape. I've had to use it in the past. Blocking this off will IMHO lead to more accidents as there's no place to go except back into 70 MPH traffic. I really believe that speeds from should be reduced to 45 MPH during construction. Open it back up after the Winchester exit

I didnt realize this site was used for bickering amongst one another. You guys are acting childish.
Natasha K September 12, 2012 at 10:43 PM
one of the reasons everyone is so impatient is the fact this off ramp has been "under construction" on and off over the last 10 years. Obviously the people in charge are deficient, can't get it right and not forecasting the infrastructure properly. It truly doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the population growing leaps and bounds. This ramp should have been completed the proper way years ago, not to mention off ramps every 4-5 miles. Not realistic at all.
Natasha K September 12, 2012 at 10:45 PM
I agree. Trucks should travel at odd hours. In addition, they should have their own lanes. All part of trucking
Teller of Truth September 12, 2012 at 11:18 PM
Guess you're just not paying too close attention then?
Donna September 12, 2012 at 11:32 PM
Its not always the truckers.. causing problems its the people that think they are too good to sit in line with the rest of the people and just cut off anyone.. Whats bad is if truck is full it takes longer to stop on the dime no mater what the trucker does.. This is one of the reasons I never use this off ramp and take side streets. If Im comming the 215 south and get to the 15 south I get all the way over to avoid all the last min. nutty drivers.
Teller of Truth September 12, 2012 at 11:41 PM

Maybe posting a HWY Patrol there during the danger times? I've seen it before in other areas. I don't know,,, just a thought.
Constant Comment September 13, 2012 at 01:14 AM
Did you ever notice how many brake lights you see......when people spot a highway patrol car sittin on the side of the road? Trying to clear up congestion, not create more.
Constant Comment September 13, 2012 at 01:41 AM
@Teller....HA!
