SMOKE ADVISORY: Jurupa Fire Prompts Alert

A brush fire burning in Riverside County in Jurupa Valley near the City of Riverside has caused areas of smoke and ash and burning odors in the Basin to the south and west.

The following is an advisory from the Southern California Air Quality Management District:

A brush fire burning in Riverside County in Jurupa Valley near the City of Riverside has caused areas of smoke and ash and burning odors in the Basin to the south and west. Air quality measurements in the Metropolitan Riverside Area and downwind have remained in the Good to Moderate categories overnight and this morning. The offshore winds are currently light, but may increase this morning. Depending on fire conditions and continuing containment, air quality may reach Unhealthy levels in smoke impacted areas near the fire this morning. The lingering smoke and odors should dissipate as ventilation increases later this morning.

Other downwind areas throughout the Basin may experience lesser amounts of smoke and odors through the morning, potentially causing periods of Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups air quality.

In any area impacted by smoke: Everyone should avoid any vigorous outdoor or indoor exertion; people with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly, and children should remain indoors. Keep windows and doors closed or seek alternate shelter. Run your air conditioner if you have one. Keep the fresh air intake closed and the filter clean to prevent bringing additional smoke inside.
