A speeding motorist was killed early Sunday when his car struck a guard rail in Corona and tumbled down a drainage canal, according to the Corona Police Department.
Police and firefighters were dispatched at 2:15 a.m. to the area of Magnolia Avenue and All American Circle where the driver of a Mazda 6, Steven Burgess, 28, of Riverside, was found at the bottom of the canal. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Corona police said.
Officers believe Burgess was speeding on eastbound Magnolia Avenue when he approached All American Circle and struck the guard rail. The impact caused Burgess' car to veer off the roadway and into the canal, police reported.
Corona police asked anyone who knows about the fatal crash to call Investigator Clark Eveland at (951) 817-5764.
