Suspected Drunk Driver Crashes Into Tree

"It is believed that alcohol consumption was a factor in this collision and the investigation is ongoing."

A suspected drunk driver who crashed into a tree is the reason why Lake Street in Lake Elsinore was closed Tuesday night, police are reporting.

The closure between Nichols and Temescal Canyon roads was the result of a solo-vehicle crash that occurred around 11:43 p.m., according to a Lake Elsinore Police Department report.

“It is believed that alcohol consumption was a factor in this collision and the investigation is ongoing,” according to the report.

The report stated that a white Honda Accord was traveling southbound on Lake Street, lost control, and collided with a large tree atop an embankment. The driver and sole occupant of the Honda was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center for treatment and was admitted for observation, according to the report.

The driver’s name was not released by authorities.
