Suspected Killer Now Charged With Murdering His Cellmate At French Valley Jail

Julio Negrete, who was in custody on suspicion of a minor drug offense, was found dead in the cell he shared with Chad Patrick Barrera.

A murder charge has been filed against an inmate who is accused of killing his cellmate at Southwest Detention Center in French Valley.

The Press-Enterprise is reporting that Chad Patrick Barrera, 32, of Cathedral City, has been charged with murder in the May 9 killing death of his cellmate, Quail Valley resident Julio Negrete, 35.

Negrete, who was in custody on suspicion of a minor drug offense, was found dead in the cell he shared with Barrera, The Press-Enterprise reported.

Barrera already had one murder charge against him before this most recent incident. On April 20, 2012, he was arrested and later pleaded not guilty to murder, kidnapping, carjacking and other charges related to the death of 36-year-old Palm Springs resident Ryan Potts, according to The Press-Enterprise report.
