Nine-Hour Freeway Closure Triggered By Lake Elsinore Residents

Lake Elsinore residents Jose Edwin Gomez and Gustavo Alexander Martinez, both 20, were arrested and booked into the county jail.

Two suspects have been arrested following a pursuit, a crash and an officer-involved shooting that stopped traffic all Friday morning on southbound Interstate 15 in Lake Elsinore.

Lake Elsinore residents Jose Edwin Gomez and Gustavo Alexander Martinez, both 20, were arrested and booked into the county jail yesterday.

Gomez was identified as the driver of the vehicle that was chased first by Ontario police and then California Highway Patrol officers into Lake Elsinore about 2 a.m. Friday.

He was booked on suspicion of evading a peace officer, causing injury, receiving known stolen property and obstructing or resisting arrest.

He remained behind bars in lieu of $25,000 bail, pending arraignment Tuesday at the Southwest Justice Center.

There was no booking or arraignment information available today on Martinez.

The chase but no one was wounded, though one CHP officer was hurt in the crash, authorities said.

The investigation of the shooting is still underway – it was not clear who shot at whom – and anyone with information is asked to call sheriff’s Investigators at 951-955-2777 or Lake Elsinore police Detective Brett Seckinger at 951-210-1000.

@ Robert.....Obviously anyone making a ridiculous statement like you have made is a person that breaks the law or you would not be putting the blame on the officer trying to do his job. You put yourself into their shoes and do their job and see how you feel about it then.
