Teacher At Earl Warren Elementary Robbed During School Fundraiser

Shane Anthony Spalla, 18, and the unidentified juvenile were booked for grand theft and conspiracy.

An 18-year-old man accused in the theft of close to $1,100 during a fundraiser at Lake Elslinore's is set to appear in court Wednesday.

Shane Anthony Spalla and a 16-year-old boy, who took off running after allegedly grabbing a cashbox from a teacher during the fundraiser, were collared Friday evening, following a chase by residents and a search by a sheriff's helicopter crew, according to sheriff's officials.

The grab-and-run robbery occurred about 6 p.m. Friday, sheriff's officials said.

The youth was booked into Juvenile Hall and Spalla was taken to the Southwest Detention Center in French Valley.

Both are facing charges of grand theft and conspiracy to commit a crime, according to sheriff's records.

Spalla remained in custody today in lieu of $15,000 bail.

Sheriff's deputies recovered the money and returned the cash to school staff.
