Teen Who Was DUI Caused Major Injury Crash In Lake Elsinore, Police Say

The driver, 18-year-old Eduardo Barba, was traveling southbound on Chaney "at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle," said Sgt. Patrick J. Chavez of the Lake Elsinore Police Department.

An 18-year-old Lake Elsinore driver who was allegedly speeding and under the influence is to blame for an early morning crash today that injured himself and four others, including a juvenile who suffered severe injuries, authorities are reporting.

The solo-vehicle crash in the 200 block of Chaney Street was reported just after 12:30 a.m. Friday.

The driver, Eduardo Barba, was traveling southbound on Chaney “at a high rate of speed and lost control of the vehicle,” said Sgt. Patrick J. Chavez of the Lake Elsinore Police Department.

The vehicle rolled once after it hit a retaining wall, Chavez explained.

Barba, who was injured in the crash, displayed signs of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, the sergeant said.

Barba and his four passengers were transported to local area hospitals via ground ambulance.

A 17-year-old girl, whose identity has not been released by authorities, was one of the passengers who suffered severe injuries, according to Chavez.

“Out-of-custody charges will be filed against Barba for driving under the influence and causing injury,” the sergeant said.

None of the passengers’ identities were released by authorities.
