Three Drivers Arrested at Friday-Night DUI Checkpoint

Officers stopped vehicles at the intersection of Lake Street and Grand Avenue.

Three drivers were arrested for suspicion of DUI at a checkpoint Friday night at the intersection of Lake Street and Grand Avenue, according to Lake Elsinore Police.

The checkpoint operated between 8 p.m. and 3 a.m., with 1,040 vehicles passing through, according to Sgt. Peter Giannakakos. Officers directed 47 drivers to a secondary inspection area, where four were given sobriety tests.

Seven vehicles were towed from the checkpoint, and 15 drivers were cited for being unlicensed or having a suspended license.

The checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
