Three Kids Accused of Stealing $40,000 in iPads from Perris School

Three boys are suspected of stealing Apple iPads worth tens of thousands of dollars from a Perris elementary school, authorities said Wednesday.

The youths, whose names were withheld because of their ages, allegedly broke into May Ranch Elementary School on Morgan Street on May 6 and May 10, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

An undisclosed number of 16-gig iPads, apparently supplied to the school as part of an educational program, were taken during the break-ins, according to sheriff's Sgt. Ryan Hoxmeier, who said the burglars broke classroom windows to gain access.

He said the total value of the stolen devices was estimated to be in excess of $40,000.

An investigation pointed to the three juveniles as suspects. Search warrants were executed at their residences, where several of the stolen iPads were recovered and later returned to the school, Hoxmeier said.

The boys were arrested on suspicion of theft and released to the custody of their parents.
