A man suspected in a near-fatal stabbing attack at a San Jacinto motel was being held without bail Saturday in a Nevada jail.
William Donald Leonard, 49, was apprehended in Las Vegas on Wednesday, after police there identified him based on information contained in a bulletin circulated regionally by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
Leonard is expected to be returned to Riverside sometime next week. According to the Clark County, Nev., Sheriff's Department, an extradition hearing is scheduled Monday.
In addition to Leonard, sheriff's investigators were also initially seeking to question a woman about the attack, but she is no longer considered connected to the case, according to sheriff's Sgt. Wally Clear.
"She is no longer consider a person of interest," he said.
The victim, whose identity was not released, was assaulted around 7 p.m. last Saturday at a lodge in the 600 block of North Ramona Boulevard, Clear said.
He said the man suffered a life-threatening stab wound and remains in critical condition at an area hospital. The circumstances behind the stabbing were not disclosed.
