Update: Harley Rider Suffers Major Injuries in Ortega Highway Crash

Peter H. Reinert of Lake Forest struck a boulder after losing control of his motorcycle.

A 57-year-old Orange County man suffered severe injuries today when he crashed his 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle on the Ortega Highway, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.

Lake Forest resident Peter H. Reinert was headed west on the Ortega Highway close to the Ortega Oaks Candy Store about 11:15 a.m. when he lost control of the motorcycle and it left the road, struck a boulder and ejected him, CHP Officer Nathan Baer said.

Reinert was taken to a local hospital with injuries to his head, neck, left leg and left ankle and was listed in critical condition, Baer said.
