Vehicle Plunges Over The Side Of Ortega Highway

The driver was rescued and transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of major injuries.

The delay on Ortega Highway Thursday morning was due to a vehicle over the side.

According to a report from Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann, the crash was reported three miles east of El Cariso Village at 6:18 a.m.

The vehicle plunged about 40 feet over the side, the spokeswoman reported.

The driver was rescued and transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of major injuries; there were no other occupants in the vehicle, she reported.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
