Vehicle Reportedly ‘Blows Up’ In Lake Elsinore; Power Knocked Out At Walmart Center

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

UPDATED at 8:18 p.m.: Details are scant about an alleged fiery crash in Lake Elsinore Friday at Grape Street and Railroad Canyon Road, but it has been confirmed there were no serious injuries.

However, power in the area was knocked out for more than four hours.

The two-car crash reported just before 3 p.m. occurred near Walmart, according to California Highway Patrol dispatch reports. During the tangle, one of the vehicles went off-road and struck an electrical transformer box, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson.

“One of the vehicles blew up,” according to the reports coming into the CHP dispatch. 

Hendrickson could not confirm details of any explosion but said two Cal Fire engines and one battalion chief were called to the scene.

Power at the Walmart center was knocked out until nearly 7:45 p.m.

Small children were traveling in at least one of the vehicles, according to the CHP dispatch reports.

One person was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, Hendrickson said, but she could not confirm whether the victim was an adult or child.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
