UPDATED: Wildomar Roads Closed Due To Broken Water Line

The break at Central and Front streets was reported at approximately 12:10 p.m. Friday.

A break in a water line caused by construction work at Central and Front streets in Wildomar has caused road closures.

The break was reported at approximately 12:10 p.m. Friday.

Central and Front are closed and are expected to remain that way through 8:30 p.m. Friday in order to make the necessary repairs, Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District spokesman Greg Morrison said.

The break occurred when a contractor working on behalf of EVMWD hit a 16" main line, Morrison said.

"It's a very large pipe. It's going to take some time to repair," he explained.

There was flooding at the streets. Wildomar City Manager Gary Nordquist was out at the scene and said workers have done a good job of quickly diverting water into the nearby drainage channel. According to Nordquist, the flooding only lasted about 10 minutes.

As of 1:22 p.m., 27 homes were without water service, Morrison said. Service is expected to be back up this evening, he added.

There are no reports of injuries.

Work in the area is part of an EVMWD capital improvement project to upgrade aging equipment, Morrison said.
