Lake Elsinore-Area Woman Charged In Connection With Menifee Boy's Murder

Lilia Teresa Rivas, 28, was charged with murder in the shooting death of Adrian Acosta, 16. She is also charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting of a second boy.

A second suspect has been charged in the shooting death of a 16-year-old Menifee teen and the attempted murder of a second juvenile.

Lilia Teresa Rivas, 28, of Meadowbrook, was arrested Wednesday and subsequently charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Adrian Acosta, 16, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department report. She is also charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting of a second boy, whose identity has not been released by authorities.

Her arrest comes the same day that a first suspect was arraigned in the case.

Walter Morales Cortez, 22, also of Meadowbrook, was arrested Monday and pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a first-degree murder charge in the shooting death of Adrian and an attempted murder charge in the shooting of the other boy.

If convicted, Cortez faces 90 years to life in prison, according to Riverside County District Attorney's Office spokesman John Hall.

Adrian was found shot in the roadway of the 27900 block of Jefferson Avenue in Menifee early Saturday morning. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second juvenile was also found near the location with a non life-threatening gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital and was listed in stable condition, according to Menifee Police Sgt. Brian Reno.

Cortez is being held at the Southwest Detention Center; bail is set at $1,500,000. He is due back in court on July 15 for a felony settlement conference.

Rivas is being held at Robert Presley Detention Center; bail is set at $1,000,000. She is due to be arraigned June 20.
