16 Lake Elsinore City Council Applicants Named

The lone vacancy on the Lake Elsinore City Council came on July 26 after then-Mayor Amy Bhutta abruptly resigned via email.

Sixteen applicants with varying degrees of government and real-world experience will gather at the Friday to answer questions about their qualifications to hold a seat on the Lake Elsinore City Council.

The applicants are:

Lake Elsinore City Council members Melissa Melendez and Brian Tisdale will put questions to the applicants during Friday’s special public meeting that begins at 4 p.m. The process is expected to eliminate some of the applicants.

Then during the open session of the Aug. 23 regularly scheduled City Council meeting, a final applicant list will be considered by the entire council. At that time, it's anticipated that council members will put forth more questions to the remaining applicants and an appointment is expected.

Friday’s special meeting is expected to last for several hours and, although the public is encouraged to attend, there will not be public comments. According to Lake Elsinore City Clerk Virginia Bloom, applicants will be taken in groups of four, with interviews anticipated to last approximately 15 minutes per applicant.
