Every December the Lake Elsinore City Council appoints its mayor and mayor pro tem to one-year terms.

Bob Magee, who served as mayor pro tem in 2011, was also nominated for the post again, but council members Hickman, Melissa Melendez and Peter Weber cast their votes for Hickman instead.

Melendez said the decision to fill the slots was weighted because two councils members – she and Magee – are running for the State Assembly next year. She also pointed out that several council members have terms that are set to expire in 2012.

Terms for Magee, Melendez and Weber end in Nov.

“We may have a lot of changes on this council,” Melendez said in explaining her vote for Hickman over Magee.

During Tuesday’s meeting, the council also reorganized it Redevelopment Agency. In two separate unanimous votes, Weber was appointed to chair the agency and Magee was selected as vice chair.

Melendez and Tisdale held the top spots, respectively, in 2011.

The council also reorganized its Public Financing Authority. Melendez will chair the agency, with Weber as vice chair. Both appointments were made by unanimous vote of the council.
