County’s Comedy Clip Clarifies Confusion Surrounding June Primary Election

Humor used to explain confusing June 5 Primary election.

Two thumbs up. That’s what we’re giving this new comedy-docu-drama video from the Riverside County Registrar of Voters.

The clip released Tuesday features Abraham Lincoln and George Washington, portayed by William Truman Peck and Frederick T. Alexander, respectively. The main plot revolves around the two presidential pitchmen and how they help Riverside County voters understand the new open primary system that will be used in California for the first time during the June 5 election.

Using comedy and simple language, the actors explain this year’s “Top Two Primary” system, which allows voters to cast a ballot for any candidate during the June primary election, not just a candidate in their own party. The exceptions are in presidential primary elections and in political parties’ central committee elections, when voters can only vote for candidates within their own party.

The video goes on to explain how voters will return to the polls on November 6 during the run-off election. At that time, voters will be asked to choose between the top two candidates in each race as narrowed down during the June primary. (Just watch the video – the mud all becomes very clear.)

A bit about the actors: Frederick T. Alexander lives in Yucca Valley and has appeared as George Washington on The History Channel, at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and at schools, trade shows and numerous other venues. William Truman Peck of San Marcos has appeared as Lincoln on The History Channel as well as on HBO, at a Republican National Convention, Civil War reenactments, fairs, schools and a host of other events.
