Special County Meeting

County officials are advising that the Feb. 14 public hearing on the may be rescheduled. A decision on the matter is expected Thursday when the Riverside County Board of Supervisors will hold a special public meeting at 5:15 p.m. to consider the possible reschedule.

A last-minute announcement on the special meeting and the possible reschedule came late Wednesday afternoon after county officials learned they had secured appointments with senior U.S. Department of Transportation officials in Washington, D.C., according to county spokesman Ray Smith.

Riverside County has worked for more than a year to meet with federal officials and “outline the need for hundreds of millions of dollars for infrastructure improvements in California’s fastest-growing county,” Smith said Wednesday.

The request to possibly postpone the Feb. 14 mining hearing came at the request of Supervisor Jeff Stone, who plans to travel to Washington, D.C., next week with other local transportation officials, Smith stated.

“Both these issues are vital to our county’s future,” Stone said. “But if we cannot attend the meetings next week in our nation’s capital, we do not know when, or if, we will have another opportunity.”
