The Associated Press is reporting that House Speaker John Boehner and President Barack Obama talked about the GOP bill Thursday during a brief phone conversation.
The GOP-backed legislation is aimed at creating jobs by overhauling the nation's tax laws, cutting business rules and boosting offshore oil exploration, and it calls for repealing the president's health care law and passing a constitutional amendment requiring a balanced budget, according to Sen. Paul’s office.

Boehner told the president today that Republicans are willing to address new transportation and infrastructure spending, but "in a fiscally responsible way,” the AP reports.
“More government spending and excessive regulation are the problem not the solution. We have spent too long increasing the tax and regulatory burdens on job creators, instead of allowing them to operate more freely and create more jobs,” Sen. Paul said in a released statement.
The news came as Democrats mount an offensive on the jobs issue.
