Looking ahead to November’s general election, there are three local races of particular importance to Lake Elsinore and Wildomar residents: The bid for the 67th State Assembly District; the run for the 42nd Congressional District; and the contest for Riverside County Supervisor, 1st District.

Although the primary election held June 5 is still pending final certification, at press time the candidates in these races have been narrowed to the following:

67th State Assembly District:

Lake Elsinore City Councilwoman Melissa Melendez (Republican)

Phil Paule (Republican); he serves as an aide to Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Vista)

42nd Congressional District:

Incumbent Ken Calvert (R-Hemet)

Michael Williamson, an attorney who represents the Riverside Sheriff's Association (Democrat)

Riverside County Supervisor, 1st District (although this is a non-partisan race, the candidates' party affiliations have been noted here):

Incumbent Bob Buster (Independent)

66th State Assemblyman Kevin Jeffries (R-Lake Elsinore)
