Nonprofit Offers Unemployed Veterans Paid Job Training

A new program provides paid job training and matching.

Out-of-work veterans in Riverside County are being encouraged to take advantage of a newly established program that provides paid job training opportunities, employee-employer matching and other services.

The Community Action Partnership of Riverside County is welcoming former
service men and women who are struggling to find permanent employment to
apply for a place in the nonprofit's "Veterans Employment Training" -- or VET
-- program.

CAP is also seeking to sign up area businesses willing to put a priority on hiring vets, according to the nonprofit.

Veterans accepted into the program will be eligible for hourly paid training -- up to 40 hours a week -- as well as assistance with preparing for interviews and composing resumes, help finding affordable housing, child daycare and healthcare services.

Unemployment among former members of the U.S. Armed Services is upwards
of 25 percent, according to county officials.
