Assembly ‘Canidate’ Sherry Hodges Poses with Misspelled Sign

76th Assembly District seat hopeful is shown with a misspelled sign created by a volunteer group.

If there's one thing better than spell-check, it's a Patch reader.

One eagle-eyed reader pointed out a photo showing candidate for California’s 76th Assembly District Sherry Hodges holding a campaign sign calling Hodges a “canidate” for Assembly.

The photo was taken before Hodges boarded a float in Oceanside's Fourth of July parade last year, according to Saundra Waecker, co-president of the Oceanside Republican Women Federated. The signs were handmade the night before by one of the group's officers.

Waecker suspects Hodges noticed the error, but took part in the float regardless.

“We had a great time that beautiful day in Oceanside celebrating our country’s birth,” she stated.

That was not the only political misspelling this season.

  • A sign for former Oceanside Mayor and current candidate Terry Johnson reads “mayer” in the fine print.
  • A mailer for Oceanside City Candidate Chip Dykes refers to the city’s Morro Hills neighborhood as “Morrow” Hills.

And the fun doesn’t end there. A different Patch reader pointed out to this eager editor Monday that the word “at” on his breaking news story contained an extra “A.”

Editor's note: The story has been updated to reflect that a group officer made the error.

With everything happening this past week on the East Coast, the national and local elections, the economy, etc... and we write about spelling?

I think it odd that someone would hold someone accountable for some one else mistake. Sherry was gracious in not bring this mistake to my attention either privately or publicly. She is one gracious lady.

This is pathetic. Patch has fallen to a new irrelevant drivel . Much more important : Why has a San Francisco Company dropped $500M on Rocky C. and OUR local Assembly race ? Guess we're going to find out how the already paid for Rocky behaves now. BTW: Can I get one of those Rocky beach walking/ retire at 50 with full benefits jobs ?

Sherry didn't promote the book ban . She was required to bring the matter to the board because the requester was in the district. You did not ever read that she agreed with the request. go back to the cool aid reverend
