Proposed Redistricting: Lake Elsinore And Wildomar No Longer Dividing Senate, Assembly Seats

The boundaries are in the draft state now and there will be a public input process. The final districts will be released in August.

After two years of work, on Friday the 14-member California Redistricting Commission released draft plans for the state’s 53 congressional districts, 40 state senate districts and 80 state assembly districts, as well as districts for the state Board of Equalization, which handles taxation issues.

Under the proposed redistricting, Lake Elsinore and Wildomar would no longer be divided among senate and state assembly districts. (CLICK HERE to see current and proposed maps.)

Currently, Lake Elsinore and Wildomar are split up between the 66th Assembly District, now represented by Assemblyman Kevin Jeffries (R), and the 64th Assembly District represented Assemblyman Brian Nestande (R).

Similarly, Lake Elsinore and Wildomar would be rolled into one Senate District under the proposed new plans. Currently, Lake Elsinore is represented by State Senator Bill Emerson (R), 37th District; Wildomar is represented by State Senator Joel Anderson (R), 36th District.

Lake Elsinore and Wildomar would still fall under the same congressional district, but lines would change significantly under the proposed plans (see attached maps). Under the new draft, the line would no longer stretch to the coast and would extend only as far south as the Riverside County line.

Currently, both Lake Elsinore and Wildomar are currently represented by Congressman Darrell Issa (R), 49th District.

Perhaps most significant is the proposed Board of Equalization redistricting. Under the new draft, Riverside, San Diego, Orange and Imperial counties would fall under the same district. Currently, the 3rd District, represented by Michelle Steel, includes the four counties and portions of San Bernardino and Los Angeles counties.
