Riverside County Sheriff Rejects Feinstein's Gun Control Legislation

"In the end, I believe this proposed bill will cause far more harm than any good,” Sheriff Stan Sniff argues.

Riverside County Sheriff Stan Sniff has written a letter to Senator Dianne Feinstein denouncing her federal legislation that proposes to ban assault weapons in this country.

“I believe [the legislation] is overreaching within the context of our Second Amendment. It places legitimate citizens, both now and in the future, at potential risk of not being able to lawfully defend themselves, or to participate in legitimate recreational shooting sports that should be available to all across our great nation. In the end, I believe this proposed bill will cause far more harm than any good,” Sniff wrote in his Feb. 1 letter to Feinstein.

The letter was also sent to the county’s congressional representatives, according to Sniff’s office.

Sniff argues that rather than focus on banning weapons that are “universally” used by law-abiding citizens, the emphasis should be on increasing efforts to keep firearms and other weapons out of the hands of those who should not have them. He also argues for increased punishment for those who “willfully misuse” firearms.

“Although our state and local law enforcement agencies do not enforce federal laws, and you have served our State well over many years in many ways, I do not support this proposed legislation, and I recommend others in Congress also oppose it,” Sniff wrote.

Q. "Why do you need a gun like an AR 15?" A. It's not about need, it's about my Second Amendment right to own such a rifle! Q. But Assault Rifles are not necessary for hunting? A. First of all, it's not an Assault Rifle. And secondly, the Second Amendment is not about hunting, it's about defending Liberty from tyranny! Q. So you are worried that a tyrant is going to take away your guns and your liberty? A. No, because I have the Second Amendment!

Linda, I have seen your snarky comments. You think that liberals have the majority in California, however the state is for the most part conservative with the exception of LA and San Francisco. The remainder of the state follows good judgement. I would submit to you how would you recommend some one defend them self? I have spoke to many liberals who have the idea of rolling up in a ball to try to survive an attack, this method rarely works with bears, how do you think it would work with someone who has immensely larger cognitive ability with a knife or gun?

Great job on how to respond to someone who thinks we don't need a rifle like the AR or other semi automatic weapon.

1. Many tyrannical dictators are elected by "popular vote", the "useful idiots" as Vladimir Lenin called them. 2. All tyrannical dictators and all "useful idiot" politicians who want to ban guns are protected by armed guards. 3. The biggest killer of people throughout history has always been the government. The people that they killed have ALWAYS been UNARMED. 4. "It won't happen here", "They wouldn't do that", "It's for our protection", "They're professionals", "It's for the children", etc., etc., blah, blah......... 5. WAY TO GO, SHERIFF SNIFF !!!!!
