Supervisor Kevin Jeffries Allots $1,000 To Food Drive

Supervisor Kevin Jeffries today allocated $1,000 from his discretionary budget to boost the county's annual holiday food drive.

The "Take a Bite Out of Hunger" campaign seeks nonperishable edibles that will help stock the shelves at area food banks and pantries. Most items can be dropped in designated bins at county facilities and participating stores.

When the first charity drive was held in 2008, more than 12,500 gallons of donated food was collected.

Jeffries' contribution was drawn from his community improvement budget. Each county supervisor receives between $300,000 and $500,000 annually to spend on whatever he chooses, as long as it has a verifiable public benefit.
