Water District Gives Local Teachers $15K

Western Municipal Water District officials announced Tuesday that 24 teachers were awarded nearly $15,000 in grants to educate students about water.

The teachers—which include those from Murrieta, Lake Elsinore and Temecula—we're given grants that range from $360 to a maximum of $700 to implement special water projects in their classrooms. The grant is named in honor of Lois B. Krieger, who served on Western’s Board of Directors for 25 years and was also the first female chairperson for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

“The commitment from these teachers who inspire their students to learn more about water is truly what the Krieger Project Grants are about,” stated WMWD in a press release. “For the majority of these teachers, th ey wouldn’t be able to conduct their water lessons without the funding.”

The following teachers from Patchtowns received grants:

• Glenda Rhea, Elsinore Elementary School, Lake Elsinore
• Chris Scolinos, Thompson Middle School, Murrieta
• Laurie Tate, Elsinore Middle School, Temecula
