Who's Impacted By A Government Shutdown?

If the government does shut down Oct. 1, here's how you be impacted.

According to the latest reports, House Republicans aren’t bending on their demand to change ObamaCare, and the Senate has voted 54-46 to reject the latest GOP attempt to tie the Affordable Care Act to a spending bill.

So if the government does shut down Oct. 1, how will you be impacted?

According to a Washington Post article, most federal agencies would undergo some form of impact. Locally the impacts include:

--active-duty military personnel won’t get paid on Oct. 15;

--some Department of Homeland Security workers will be furloughed, including some airport screeners, border patrol employees, and some Coast Guard;

--approximately 45 percent of Food and Drug Administration workers would be furloughed with the agency saying it will be unable to keep most of its food safety oversight in place;

--the Department of Housing and Urban Development would furlough most workers, which will impact local housing authorities;

--at the Federal Aviation Administration, workers whose jobs don't involve air traffic control face furlough;

--and the Department of Veterans Affairs will see furloughs that may impact veterans’ benefits.

As the Washington Post story explains, there are other impacts that may hit people here at home.

The only agencies that would not be immediately impacted by a government shutdown, according to the article, include:

The U.S. Postal Service

The Securities and Exchange Commission

The Supreme Court
