Wildomar Man Organizing Local Protest Over Possible U.S. Strike In Syria

A rally at Temecula's Duck Pond is scheduled for noon Saturday, Sept. 7.

As President Barack Obama sets the stage for an address Tuesday night that is expected to outline plans for a possible U.S. military strike against Syria, a Wildomar man is setting the stage for a rally here at home in opposition to an attack.

“Citizens Unite in Temecula to Declare ‘No War on Syria!’” was the subject line of an email Friday morning from Wildomar’s Gene Trosper.

According to the message that followed, Trosper is calling on local residents to turn out noon Saturday, Sept. 7, at Temecula’s Duck Pond for a rally opposing a strike in Syria.

“We don't want war and we don't need war," Trosper said. "People may have different reasons for opposing war and foreign interventionism, but we can all agree that war against Syria is unnecessary and dangerous."

Trosper cites recent polls showing opposition by American citizens to another U.S. conflict in the Middle East.

Today, President Obama conceded that support for a strike is tough sell. Click here for that story from the New York Times.

"It's our fervent desire to support and solidify public opposition to military intervention in Syria with this rally," Trosper said.

According to Trosper's email, “The Temecula rally against war on Syria is being primarily organized online and was conceived on Wednesday evening. There is no official estimate as to the number of people turning out.”

Trosper is a frequent political blogger and online commenter.

Temecula's Duck Pond is located at 28250 Ynez Road.
