The following is a news brief from the Lake Elsinore Unified School District:

Amanda Martilla, a 5th grade student at Tuscany Hills Elementary School, has won the district's annual Spelling Bee for 4th through 8th grade finalists. Mason Dowell, a 7th grade student at Canyon Lake Middle School, was the district's runner-up.

Amanda correctly spelled the word quittance in the 26th and final round. She advances to the Riverside County Spelling Bee on March 20, with Mason as her alternate.

Thirty-three finalists competed in the Spelling Bee, held at Lakeside High School Wednesday night.
