It was not to be for the Lakeside Lancers at home Friday night.

Although it was a devastating 58-0 loss to the Temecula Valley Bears, the Lancers did have some bright spots. Lancer quarterback Dakota Wilson completed 10 of 20 for 97 yards and had no interceptions. His two main receivers, Raymond Craven and Danny Mateos, finished the night with 40 and 39 yards respectively.

Four minutes into the second quarter, Bears quarterback Kyle Plantier found Andre Armstrong on a scoring strike inside the 10-yard line.  A couple of minutes later, there was a necessary 45-minute delay in the game due to an injured Lancer. The unidentified player was experiencing breathing problems and was eventually transported via ambulance for medical treatment.

The last two minutes of the first half saw two more scores by the Bears. Ryan Smith hit pay dirt for the second time — this one a 66-yard run with under two minutes remaining and then the Bears kicked a 25-yarder through the uprights.

At halftime, it was Bears 30, Lancers 0.

Eighteen seconds into the third quarter, Ryan Smith found his way into the Lancer end zone from 67 yards out. Also in the third, the Bears Brock Dudley caught a 12-yard pass from Plantier and teammate Garrison Flores had a joyous celebration following his 59-yard run from scrimmage.

With less than six minutes in the game, Temecula Valley’s Joshua Cortez finished the visitor’s scoring attack with a five-yard scamper into the end zone.

Leo Mendez would convert seven of eight PATs on the night to go with his second quarter touchdown. His final boot came following Cortez's rushing touchdown and was the final score on the night.

Temecula Valley’s highlights include 350 rushing yards by five players. Ryan Smith led all rushers with 153 yards. Bears quarterback Plantier was 6 of 7 on the night for 119 yards, two passing TDs and no interceptions.  Receivers Andre Armstrong, Griffen Doran, and Derrick Hooks caught five passes between them for an average gain of 21.4 yards.

The Bears are now 1-1 and will host Elsinore High School next Friday.

The Lancers are 0-3 and look to rebound next Friday when they host Carter of Rialto.
