Cottonwood Canyon Elementary School Principal Announces Departure; New Leader Sought

"I am forever grateful for the wonderful teaching and learning at CCE that I've witnessed every day."

The following is a news release from the Lake Elsinore Unified School District:

Principal Gordon Wood has formally accepted a position in another school district (pending approval), but will continue as principal of Cottonwood Canyon Elementary through the end of the current school year. In the next few weeks, the district will launch a public participation and recruitment effort to fill the position, gathering feedback from stakeholders.

The announcement was shared with school staff and site administrators on Wednesday. In an email to staff about his decision, Wood prefaced it by saying, “As many of you know, my background prior to becoming a principal was as a head football coach. My passion for coaching kids in a competitive environment is something I’ve sincerely wished to rekindle.”

District Superintendent Dr. Doug Kimberly issued a statement to site administrators Thursday on Wood’s accomplishments and good standing with the district, “I have come to know Gordon as a respected leader with a true passion for education. His positive influence on students and staff and service to our district are equally commendable.”
