Elsinore High School Drug Bust Prompts Discussion

Last Thursday, that also saw 12 arrests at Vista Del Lago High School in Moreno Valley.

Friday, Patch reporter Daniel Lane chatted to a couple of students and one parent about drugs on campus.

“I think there are drugs everywhere at every high school. It’s just part of our society,” said Bridget, a 16-year-old junior. “I don’t think our school should just be judged on this or be taken down by this. It’s not just Elsinore. If the cops did drug sweeps at all high schools they would find drugs there too. We are actually a good school.”

Annie, a 15-year-old junior, saw it a little differently.

“I think there are obviously drugs on campus and a drug problem here,” she said, pointing out Thursday’s arrests. “Every school has drugs, it just happens that our kids got caught doing it.”

An Elsinore High School parent, Linda, took a harsher stance.

“I think the laws are so lax -- they’re letting kids get by with it (and) it’s destroying our schools,” she said. “One offense after another they’re in jail -- they’re in jail and right out again. They don’t do any time and don’t have any consequences.”
