Lake Elsinore's Online School Beats Averages In Latest Test Results

Southern California Online Academy sophomores beat state, county, and district averages on the California High School Exit Exam, and the school improved significantly over last year's results.

Lake Elsinore Unified School District sophomores were in line with county averages in the math and English portions of the California High School Exit Exam, although students at the district’s Southern California Online Academy scored higher, according to state results out Thursday.

According to 2012-13 CAHSEE results released by the California Department of Education today, 83 percent of LEUSD 10th graders passed the math portion of the test, while 82 percent passed the English portion.

The district's percentage result for the English portion of the test is the same as the county average, while the district’s result for the math portion is one percentage point lower than the county average.

All students in California must take the exit exam during their sophomore year. 

The following are sophomore 2012/13 results for the LEUSD by high school:

Elsinore High School

83 percent passed the math portion (up from 79 percent in the 2011-12 school year)

82 percent passed the English portion (same as the 2011-12 school year)

Lakeside High School

84 percent passed the math portion (same as the 2011-12 school year)

83 percent passed the English portion (same as the 2011-12 school year)

Temescal Canyon High School

83 percent passed the math portion (down from 87 percent in the 2011-12 school year)

81 percent passed the English portion (down from 85 percent in the 2011-12 school year) 

Southern California Online Academy

91 percent passed the math portion (up from 73 percent in the 2011-12 school year)

89 percent passed the English portion (up from 71 percent in the 2011-12 school year)

A district-by-district breakdown showed students in both the Murrieta Valley Unified and Temecula Valley Unified School Districts had the highest pass rates in math and English -- 91 and 92 percent, respectively.

Statewide, 84 percent of 10th graders passed the math portion, while 83 percent passed English.

Although students must take the exit exam during their sophomore year, they have two more opportunities to pass it in the 11th grade and up to five chances as seniors.

The class of 2006 was the first graduating class in California that was required to meet the exit exam requirement.
