LEUSD's Stan Crippen Honored By Tigers

The Stan Crippen courtyard is the first in a series of four being constructed at Elsinore High School using commemorative bricks purchased by the public.

Tigers are holding court at Elsinore High School, and Lake Elsinore Unified School District board member Stan Crippen has been honored by them.

Crippen was the first to be recognized by the school as part of the “Tiger Courts” project during the Feb. 9 LEUSD board meeting.

The EHS Tiger Foundation, which benefits the school’s students, is in the process of building four small Tiger Courts on campus. Each courtyard is being named after someone in the school community who has made significant contributions to Elsinore. The Stan Crippen courtyard is the first in the series and is located at the northeast corner of the school's quad.

In addition to serving on the LEUSD board, Crippen was a long-time faculty member at EHS. From 1975 to 2008, he taught history, government, and psychology there. His six children all graduated in the LEUSD.

The Stan Crippen courtyard is being constructed using commemorative 4” x 8” bricks. Bricks are currently available for purchase at $100 each or two for $150. Each brick is inscribed and is used in the courtyard’s wall or on its pathway. A typical brick inscription might include an alumnus’s name and graduation year, for example.

Each Tiger Court will also feature a life-sized bronze tiger on a pedestal.

Construction on the three other courtyards has yet to begin as commemorative bricks have to be purchased before building can start.

According to information provided by Elsinore High School Principal Jon Hurst, each Tiger Court will serve as a symbol of the three core values of Elsinore High School: tradition, caring and respect.

Hurst said that with Elsinore High School’s more than 80 years of history, there are many alums to honor.
