LEUSD Science Fair Winners Announced

Four students from the Lake Elsinore Unified School District took honors during the prestigious fair.

Several Lake Elsinore Unified School District students took honors during 30th Annual RIMS Inland Science and Engineering Fair held April 3-4 at the National Orange Show Fairgrounds in San Bernardino.

More than 764 projects were entered by students in Riverside, Inyo, Mono and San Bernardino counties (RIMS) in grades 4-12. There were three divisions: Elementary (fourth- and fifth-graders), Junior (sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders) and Senior (9th- through 12th-graders).

Additionally, Owen Johnson, a student at Cottonwood Canyon Elementary School, was honored with a community award.

Individual and group projects were judged in 20 categories of science from microbiology to zoology, math and physics to electronics, and consumer sciences to earth sciences.

The regional fair is sponsored by the Riverside County Superintendent of Schools, Inyo County Office of Education, Mono County Superintendent of Schools, and the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools.

Winners were announced April 4 during the Inland Science and Engineering Fair Riverside County Awards Ceremony at the Riverside Convention Center. Junior and Senior Division winners will go on to the California State Science Fair Competition in Los Angeles, April 30-May 1. --Patch Staff
