New Sidewalks To Be Constructed Near Lake Elsinore Schools

Walking to school in Lake Elsinore is expected to become safer for some kids and their families.

During tonight’s city council meeting, contracts are expected to be awarded for the construction of improved sidewalks near several Lake Elsinore Unified School District campuses.

If approved by the council members, the contracts will provide for sidewalk improvements near Elsinore Elementary, Elsinore Middle and Railroad Canyon Elementary. The construction would occur on Heald Avenue from Lewis Street to Lowell Street, Lowell Street from Heald Avenue to Sumner Avenue and Mill Street from Avenue 7 to Avenue 9, city documents show.

The $333,531 construction contract would be awarded to Southwest Construction Company Inc. and includes a 10 percent contingency. KDM Meridian is expected to be awarded the $26,965 construction survey contract and MTG is likely to get the $29,809 construction geotechnical and materials testing services contract for the project.

The vast majority of project funding is coming from the unappropriated Gas Tax Fund.
