Teaching Kids To Become Bilingual Subject Of Meeting

The optional Dual Immersion program offered through the LEUSD is designed "to develop a child's proficiency in English and Spanish through reading, writing, speaking, and listening."

Tonight, parents will have a chance to learn more about a special program offered through the Lake Elsinore Unified School District that teaches kids to become bilingual starting in Kindergarten. 

An informational meeting on “Dual Immersion” is being held at the multipurpose room in Lake Elsinore tonight at 5:30 p.m.

The optional Dual Immersion program is designed “to develop a child’s proficiency in English and Spanish through reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The program is academically sound, based on over 40 years of research,” according to the district.

The program launched with 60 enrollees last year at Railroad Canyon and is available to any interested elementary students within the district.

Speaking about the program last year, LEUSD spokesman Mark Dennis said Railroad Canyon Elementary was selected as the pilot because it has faculty equipped to teach in English and Spanish.
