18-Acre Sports Park Coming To Lake Elsinore

Canyon Hills Community Park will feature four fields, lighted basketball court, dog park, play and picnic areas. The park will also feature the city’s first interactive water play area that includes a 4,300-square-foot water-spray playground.

Lake Elsinore is getting a brand new 18-acre park, and the city is inviting the community to come celebrate the facility’s groundbreaking ceremony Aug. 17 at 9 a.m.

Canyon Hills Community Park located at 34360 Canyon Hills Road will feature two baseball fields, two dual-purpose fields for soccer and football, a lighted basketball court, a dog park with separate areas for large and small pooches, two children’s play areas with shade canopies, and several shaded picnic areas.

The park will also feature the city’s first interactive water play area to include a 4,300-square-foot water-spray playground.

“We’re thrilled to see this park project come to fruition and are especially proud of the design, which will include the City of Lake Elsinore’s first interactive water play area,” said Pat Kilroy, director of Lake, Parks & Recreation for the city of Lake Elsinore.

The facility will also feature an amphitheater, a concession building with kitchen, restrooms, and a recreation storage area.

Designed by Landscape Development, Inc., the park is part of the master-planned community of Canyon Hills. Pardee Homes, the developer of Canyon Hills, is serving as the park’s general contractor.

Several elected dignitaries, public safety officials, and business leaders are expected to attend Wednesday’s groundbreaking ceremony.

The park, which is owned and operated by the city, is expected to open next summer, and will serve all Lake Elsinore residents.

I would rather see some sidewalks in the city first.
Andrew August 16, 2011 at 02:12 am
oh instead of an area where kids can play and be involved in sports and physical fitness and the community can come together and be more involved with one another and.....yah your right Jackie...definitly more sidewalks in the city! WOW really??? Good job City of Lake Elsinore this is a beautiful project that will bring tremendous family value to this community and city! Thanks to Pardee as well...
David Pereira August 16, 2011 at 03:58 am
I would also rather see some sidewalks. A park is nice but it doesn't generate any revenue and draws in people from other cities, using our roads and services without paying taxes into the community. Sidewalks throughout the city would raise everyones property values, that would in turn generate more money for the city from those raised rates. With the new revenue the city could build a few parks. Building a nice park, as noble as it may be, when the rest of the city is in shambles, is only putting a bandaid on a bullet wound.

I think this new park sounds great! As far as sidewalks go, around where I live (by McVicker) a lot of people walk in the street! Joggers, moms with strollers, etc. Even when there are sidewalks available, I can't figure it out. The way people drive yapping on their cellphones they are crazy not to use the sidewalk.
Martha L. Bridges August 16, 2011 at 02:04 pm
Didn't you and the other detractors read the article?
This wonderful park project is part of a previously approved planned community, and those people who conceived of, built and sold homes in the Canyon Hills development committed to the project as part of the approval for the development. People who purchased homes in this development understood that the builder would provide planning and resources for this project. Certainly they have no interest in allowing any of these resources to be used for sidewalks in other parts of the city. The people of Lake Elsinore should be proud of such a quality development, and grateful that the parks will be open to all.

As Martha said, the sports park was already part of the general plan for that community. The special assessments in that area will appropriately reflect the repayment of the cost of building the sports park to the homeowners. $$$

Glad to see this project is finally getting getting started. This is going to be a beautiful addition to an outstanding community.

Glad to see the developers Quimby fee's used for what they are sposed to be used for. I hope that the user fee's for sports groups such as Soccer, Pony League etc. along with volunterism go a long way in keeping these fields and an asset instead of a liability. To all th liberal pick pockets trying to shame those of us opposed to tax increases, Go get a litterbag and quit bothering us for more tax dollars.

We definitely need sidewalks to many ppl have been killed especially on riverside/grand and now that the city can't even afford bus transportation for our kids! Our kids shouldn't be walking on dirt roads and we also need better lighting!!

Somewhere deep in the General Plan Guidelines are references to how often both the plans and theRead More various studies that support the General Plan EIR should be updated. If you think about the rapid growth Riverside County has experienced over the last couple of decades, it is just plain good common sense to require these updates if the document is to remain serviceable. 2003 versions are now 10 years old, and many of the supporting studies in the EIR are even older. It's bad enough when a city or county is forced to work with an old plan, but it is far worse not to have adopted any plan at all. It's much like getting into the car without any sense of direction - let alone a map or GPS.

Doesn't this sound like a very long, unpaid for advertisement for goods and services for sale? AlsoRead More here we are in the tail end of June, so most homeowners have already checked things out and had the equipment tuned up for the high summer heat.

It would be hard to prove a negative. Are you insinuating that the money for additional policeRead More protection was wasted? Seems like simple logic to me that increased police presence over time would result in less crime, which would in-turn lead to more tourism, which would bring in more money for the City. Laguna Niguel is ranked every year as one of the safest cities in the U.S. Since there's so little crime there, why do they waste their money on any police at all???
LAKE ELSINORE RESIDENT June 17, 2013 at 12:45 pm
I want to see more cops on the street and I want to know if there was less crime.. I think weRead More need more police and I believe the PSAC is a waste of money, money which could go towards more police (no matter how small).

Maybe when the week is over they can give you an answer... "There will be more deputies onRead More patrol in Lake Elsinore during the week of June 17-23, a sheriff’s sergeant is reporting. The beefed up patrols come as Lake Elsinore readies for increased summertime traffic. “As part of the city of Lake Elsinore's commitment to public safety the Lake Elsinore Police Department will be deploying additional units to enforce distracted driving, seatbelt violators, drinking and driving, as well as other traffic laws, the week of June 17-23,” according to a news release from Sgt. Peter Giannakakos, who serves out of the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station."

Why not a parade in the streets?
Martha L. Bridges June 15, 2013 at 07:20 pm
Rose, we've had five years of having celebrations large and small with all the trappings ofRead More city-hood that Bridgette Moore could conjure up - right down to spending money the city didn't have to purchase monogrammed M&M. I suggest it's time to ring the bell and then get back to the real work of running the city. That would include doing the essential foundational work that has been skipped over in favor of window dressing and nonsense for the first five years.

To be clear, Supervisor Jeffries is not yet in support of charging for parking at the hospital, butRead More supported Supervisor Stone's request to have it evaluated, and is willing to consider it based on the results. In his quotes that day he mentioned that when Kaiser started charging for their new structure, they almost immediately changed their mind because the response was so negative. Supervisor Jeffries' main interest in supporting a study of all the county's parking facilities was to determine whether we could save money on the parking structures we already charge for by going to an automated system, rather than staffing it full time with multiple county employees. We have been told that we are actually losing money on the fees we collect for parking, and if that is true, we want to either switch to a cheaper collection system or eliminate the fees entirely.
Chris Twining June 13, 2013 at 12:55 am
Let's hope not. Charging for parking, especially at a hospital, is disgusting to say the least. IRead More got an idea. Let's see if just one elected official can so SOMETHING!!! other than sitting around trying to figure out more and more ways to separate us from our money. Do you have a clue as to what's going on around you? Do you get out of bed in the morning? turn on the TV? go outside? You are 10 years too late. That kind of thing from elected politicians is over. Stop trying to raise money. There are so many things out there you could be doing to make a good name for yourself, and 99% of those things involve cutting spending. Get to the bottom of some things. Imagine how people would react to that. They would swarm at your feet and hold you in high regard. And if you ever find yourself in the hospital, I will gladly come visit you as long as I dont have to pay to park.
