Food At Stake In San Diego Chargers vs. Denver Broncos Playoff Game

If the Broncos win, Denver will be receiving burritos from Ortiz's Taco Shop in Ocean Beach, carne asada fries from Lolita's Taco Shop in Kearny Mesa and deep-fried catfish tacos from Mama Testa Taqueria in Hillcrest.

Mexican food and chili will be prize in a wager between the mayors of San Diego and Denver when the Chargers meet the Broncos in the National Football League playoffs Sunday.

Interim San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria said Denver Mayor Michael Hancock will send him the Mile High City's best green chili if the Chargers win.

If the Broncos prevail, Gloria will deliver California burritos from Ortiz's Taco Shop in Ocean Beach, carne asada fries from Lolita's Taco Shop in Kearny Mesa and deep-fried catfish tacos from Mama Testa Taqueria in Hillcrest.

"Last week I bet some of our city's finest craft beers," Gloria said. "This week I'm betting some of our tastiest Mexican food. Given my certainty that we won't have to pay this bet, I urge Mayor Hancock to try these dishes the next time he visits our great city."

San Diego has been energized by the Chargers' five-game winning streak that propelled them into the playoffs, where they routed the Bengals, 27-10, in Cincinnati.

Gloria is set to receive from Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley food samples from three Queen City-based chains -- Gold Star Chili, Graeter's Ice Cream and Montgomery Inn barbecue.

Gloria is urging city employees to support the Bolts by wearing Chargers gear or Chargers colors to work on Friday.

Also, the new Central Library dome will be lighted in Charger Blue and Gold until 11 p.m.
