Lakeside HS Gets Elite Coaches For Football, Track

Former NFL receiver Kitrick Taylor takes over the football program while Olympic sprinter Torri Edwards will coach track and field at Lakeside High.

Former NFL wide receiver Kitrick Taylor was introduced as the new football coach at Tuesday, district athletic director Mark Dennis announced.

Former Olympic sprinter Torri Edwards was selected to take over the track and field program, which Taylor had coached the past two years. Edwards was also a former Pomona High graduate, and was a Pac-10 champion in the 100 and 200 while at USC.

Taylor has been a big part of the Lancers athletic landscape, as the head track and field coach, the boy's JV basketball coach for the past two seasons and the wide receivers coach for the football program.

"We are tremendously excited to add Coach Taylor to the Lancer family in this new capacity," Dennis said. "Coach Taylor has been a major part of the Lancer campus over the last two years."

Taylor brings a wealth of experience with him to his new position, Dennis said, most notably his seven years of experience at wide receiver in the NFL.

A standout athlete at Pomona High School, Taylor is the only player in school history to have had his jersey retired in football, basketball, and track and field.

Taylor went on to earn a full athletic scholarship to Washington State University and was drafted four years later by the Green Bay Packers. Taylor holds the amazing distinction of being the recipient of Brett Favre’s first touchdown pass versus the Cincinnati Bengals.

"We could not be more excited for the future of Lakeside football," Lakeside athletic director Cristian Miley said. "We are confident that Coach Taylor’s passion, experience, and drive will firmly put our football on the map as a power to contend with in our valley for years to come."

The Lancers track and field program received a huge boost as well, with the addition of Edwards to the coaching staff. Taylor coached Edwards in college and their bond has remained strong over the years. Edwards will be an integral part of helping to make our track and field program a major force in the Sunbelt league and CIF, Miley said.

"We could not be more excited to add such an accomplished athlete to our coaching staff," Miley said.
