When the Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park held the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series in April, traffic around the venue was chaotic.
Saturday’s televised 2012 Lucas Oil AMA Pro-Motocross Championships at the Park is expected to attract even more visitors, so a sergeant with the Lake Elsinore Police Department announced there will be increased traffic control operations to help alleviate expected congestion.
“The Lake Elsinore Police Department will place officers at several locations close to the venue to assist in traffic flow,” said Sergeant Peter Giannakakos. “We are asking the motoring public to please be patient … and follow all officers' instructions.”
The sergeant warned that drivers on Mission Trail, between Bundy Canyon Road and Diamond Drive, should expect additional traffic and possible delays Saturday.
“The Police Department and event organizers expect incoming traffic to be constant between the hours of 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. and outgoing traffic to be to be constant from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Drivers not attending this event are encouraged to seek alternate routes during these times as congestion may cause delays,” he said.
Event organizers will be placing “No Parking” signs on Corydon Street, between Mission Trail and Gardener Street, 24 hours prior to the event. Any vehicle parked in violation of these signs will be subject to citation and towed, Giannakakos advised.
During this past April’s event, traffic near the Motorsports Park was jammed. Motorists who attempted to enter the venue at 31919 Cereal Street spilled onto Corydon, and fans who didn’t want to pay for parking clogged local streets and parking lots.
