$20,000 July 4 Fireworks Show To Light Up Lake Elsinore

The entertainment begins at 9 p.m. and free public viewing locations include Lakepoint Park, Elm Grove Beach, Davis Fishing Beach, Whiskers Fishing Beach and a portion of levee system.

July 4 on Lake Elsinore will see a fireworks extravaganza starting at 9 p.m.

Lake Elsinore City Council unanimously approved the $20,000 fireworks show back on April 24, noting that the Lake Elsinore Storm would be playing away and therefore The Diamond is dark this Independence Day. ( for info on The Storm's July 3 fireworks display.)

In approving the fireworks, council members urged that July 4 is an important holiday in the community.

San Diego-based Fireworks America will shoot the fireworks from the levee. Free public viewing locations include Lakepoint Park, Elm Grove Beach, Davis Fishing Beach, Whiskers Fishing Beach and a portion of levee system. Paid viewing locations include all the commercial campgrounds, including the newly opened La Laguna Resort or by boat. Boaters can purchase an additional $10 Night Lake Use Pass to remain on the Lake after sunset to view the fireworks show.

“The passes are limited to 350 boats and can be purchased from qualifying commercial boat launch facilities. Purchase is restricted to motorized powerboats greater than 12-feet in length that display CF#s and current registration sticker attached to the bow,” according to the city’s website.

Other than approved shows, fireworks and sparklers are illegal in Riverside County. The cities of Blythe, Coachella, Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs and Indio are the only cities that allow the sale and use of State Fire Marshal-approved "Safe and Sane" fireworks, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. “Fireworks purchased in these cities shall not be transported, used or possessed outside of the cities in which they were purchased,” the department warned.

“All fireworks are illegal because they cause serious injuries and very often, cause fires. Riverside County has very diverse terrain. The vegetation is very dry, and fireworks can easily start a brush fire,” the department continued in a news release.

Anyone who causes a wildfire by using illegal fireworks will be held responsible for all suppression costs and could be criminally prosecuted; these costs can run into the millions of dollars, the department stated in the news release.
