UPDATE: Flash Flood Warning in Effect

The rain began about 2 p.m., Sunday, preceded by thunder and lightning about 1:30 p.m.

Update at 2:47 p.m.:

A flash flood warning was in effect Sunday afternoon for Lake Elsinore because of heavy rains.

The rain expected in the Inland Valley hit Lake Elsinore with a vengeance Sunday afternoon.

First came the thunder, then lightning flashed in the skies over Lake Elsinore, culminating in a heavy downpour, Patch learned at the scene.

Meteorologists tagged the temperature at 100 degrees fahrenheit during the storm.

The road immediately began flooding at Mission Trail and Diamond Drive, Patch learned.

As the skies turned dark and dreary in Lake Elsinore, a little further southwest, in Temecula, the skies remained sunny, punctuated on by a short downpour about noon.

Rain is expected into Monday.

"The impressive amount of subtropical moisture, combined with northeasterly winds in the upper atmosphere, should be enough to push showers and thunderstorms into some of the inland valleys by Saturday evening, increasing overnight, and then across Southern California on Sunday," wrote John Toman, meteorologist for weathercurrents.com

It's awesome! I let my puppy out to go potty and then it started to rain. She hid underneath my porch and I had to climb to get her out because she was afraid. It was her first rainstorm.

1984 we had thunder storms every day thru the summer. Never have I seen this since. Oh and the patch needs a proof reader. The first line of this article repeats hits lake Elsinore twice.

I have loved these summer storms. It's been great for my slope in my backyard. Also great for the trees on the foreclosure up the street. They always look so thirsty. My dog is the only one who does not enjoy this. He hides under my desk.
