900 Volunteers To Converge In Lake Elsinore Saturday

The Day of Caring for the Southwest Region, sponsored by the United Way of the Inland Valleys, gets underway at 7 a.m. at The Diamond Stadium.

The 5th Annual Day of Caring gets underway Saturday, and 900 volunteers are expected to participant in the event that kicks off at in Lake Elsinore.

The Day of Caring for the Southwest Region, sponsored by the United Way of the Inland Valleys, gets underway at 7 a.m. at the stadium. The event brings volunteers and resources together for various community projects throughout Riverside County.

According to Linda Newman, United Way’s Southwest County Region Director, Lake Elsinore projects vary from home improvements for seniors to work for the city.

Among the projects, the had a large wish list that is being accommodated during Day of Caring. Ashley’s Furniture of Murrieta donated a leather sectional with ottomans for the club’s entertainment room and local Target stores donated chairs. Andy’s Glass volunteered a new workout/dance mirror, and professional artist Marcia Gawecki has donated a collage. 

Different faith based groups have all registered for the Day of Caring and are working on various projects for the city of Lake Elsinore and for seniors. The groups are also working on projects with Blue Star Families, an organization that writes to service men and women overseas and welcomes home returning military personnel.

Along with various vendors at the stadium, there will also be entertainment including skydivers in the morning and the LA Laker Girls will be there autographing photos of this year’s new squad around noon.  A celebration lunch will also be served.

Registered volunteers who show up to the stadium Saturday with five canned food items will receive a ticket to that night’s Storm baseball game. The food items will be donated to the non-profit
