Local Couple Supporting The Troops With Fudge

The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory in the Lake Elsinore Outlets along with American Legion Post 200 in Lakeland Village are continuing their campaign to support military overseas with a "Fudge for Troops" promo that runs through Aug. 15.

What could be sweeter than supporting the troops with fudge?

The along with American Legion Post 200 in Lakeland Village are continuing their campaign to support military overseas with a “Fudge for Troops” promo that runs through Aug. 15.

For every pound of fudge sold in the Lake Elsinore Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory store, one pound of fudge will be donated to service men and women in Afghanistan by shopowners Rob and Danelle Schimming. The American Legion will ship the care packages.

The Schimmings said the promo is a sweet deal, and they have set a goal to send 100 pounds of their sugary confection to the troops.

“We have a lot of friends in the military – we know quite a few,” Danelle said.

Besides traditional old-fashioned chocolate fudge, the Schimmings cook up delectable flavors such as peanut butter, maple, Rocky Road, English toffee, vanilla, and Oreo – just to name a few.

“We’ll try out pretty much any flavor. I think the most interesting one we’ve made is Black Forest fudge,” Danelle said.

The Schimmings took over the store in December 2010 after Rob won the franchise through a contest held by the Steven L. Craig School of Business at Missouri Western State University. He was one of a few student finalists in the competition, which called for writing and proposing a comprehensive business plan.

“We got in at the right time,” Rob said of his win and the store’s Dec. 4 holiday opening.

The young married couple – Rob is 26 and Danelle is 23 – transplanted from Missouri, and are adjusting to their new home in Lake Elsinore.

“It feels a lot like the Midwest – the people are really nice, but the weather is better here!” Danelle said.

Come out and support the Schimmings and the troops. Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory at the Lake Elsinore Outlets is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays. Orders can be called in ahead: 951-245-1396.
