Commuter Alert: Ortega/I-5 Closure Schedule for Feb. 2-8

Later in the month, construction crews will perform full nighttime closures on the northbound and southbound I-5 freeway at Ortega Highway for three consecutive weekends to remove the wooden falsework from the south half of the bridge. 

The full freeway closures will take place on Friday and Saturday nights between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. beginning Friday, Feb. 2 1and will conclude on Saturday, March 8, according to Caltrans.

Fortunately, Caltrans indicates that both sides of the freeway will not be closed simultaneously during the weekend closures. Additional closure and detour information will be available closer to the closure dates.  

Here are this week’s closures. 

Ramp Closures:

Northbound I-5 off-ramp to Ortega Highway closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly, Wednesday and Thursday 

Northbound I-5 onramp from Ortega Highway closedbetween 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly, Wednesday and Thursday 

Southbound I-5 off-ramp to Ortega Highway closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly, Wednesday and Thursday 

Southbound I-5 onramp from Ortega Highway closed between

Lane Closures:

Northbound I-5 freeway between Camino Capistrano and Junipero Serra Road lanes closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday    

Southbound I-5 freeway between Junipero Serra Road and Camino Capistrano lanes closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly, Wednesday and Thursday 

Eastbound Ortega Highway between Del Obispo Street and Rancho Viejo Road lanes closed between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly, Wednesday and Thursday 

Westbound Ortega Highway between Rancho Viejo Road and Del Obispo Street lanes closed between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. nightly, Wednesday and Thursday
