UPDATED: Brush Fire West Of Wildomar Fully Contained

The fire is fully contained, but full control is not expected until midnight.

UPDATED AT 8:13 p.m. The brush fire that burned west of Wildomar, at Grand and Central, is now fully contained at about 16.1 acres, an official is reporting.

Full control is expected by midnight and all roads in the area have been reopened, but motorists are urged to use caution when driving and yield to fire apparatus working in the area, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann reported.

No injuries were reported and no structures were damaged in the blaze, according to Hagemann.

The fire, which remains under investigation, was reported shortly after 5 p.m. Monday.

At one point, the flames appeared to be approximately 100 feet from Wildomar homes and voluntary evacuations were underway, according to a Patch reporter on scene.

Total firefighters on the blaze was 163 and 19 engine companies were utilized, as well as air power, according to Hagemann. In addition to the Riverside County Fire Department, Cal Fire crews from San Diego were on scene, as were firefighters with the U.S. Forest Service and the City of Corona.

The Santa Rosa Plateau communities, including La Cresta, did not appear to ever be immediately threatened.

The wind was blowing out of the west, and Hagemann reported the blaze was moving at a moderate rate.

As of 6:16 p.m., the Wildomar Police Department had shut down Grand Avenue between Wesley and Central.

The closures were in place for the safety of motorists and firefighters.

Wildomar resident Jose Martinez, 41, was hosing down his yard and home. His neighborhood backs up against the hillside and was being threatened by the fire; his community has voluntarily evacuated the area, he said.

Martinez said Monday's blaze is the fourth he's seen since living in the area.

"The fire department got here so fast. I'm just so grateful to them," he said.
